Can I use regular lube for anal sex?

Yes, but purpose-made anal lube is thicker and longer-lasting, which makes a real difference to comfort. Standard water-based lube absorbs faster and needs frequent reapplication. If it's what you have, use plenty and reapply often.

Is silicone lube better than water-based for anal?

It lasts significantly longer, which some people prefer. The only limitation is that it can't be used with silicone toys. If you're using silicone toys, choose a thick water-based or hybrid formula instead.

Do I need to douche before anal sex?

No - it's entirely optional. A bowel movement and a shower beforehand is sufficient for most people. Douching is worth doing if the confidence helps you relax, but it isn't a hygiene requirement and shouldn't be done frequently or aggressively.

How do I use an anal douche safely?

Use lukewarm water only – don’t use soap, salt or any other additives. Apply gentle pressure, with a volume, rinsing the lower rectum only. Douche 30 - 60 minutes before play for best results. Avoid frequent or forceful douching, which strips the natural mucosal lining and increases irritation risk.

What does an anal relaxing gel actually do?

Quality relaxing gels use soothing, moisturising ingredients to help the area feel comfortable and encourage the sphincter muscle to relax before play. They support your body's own process rather than forcing it.

Should I use a numbing anal gel?

No. Pain during anal play is a signal that something needs to change – this could more lube, a slower pace, smaller size toy or more arousal. Numbing it means you can't respond to that signal, which increases injury risk. Comfortable anal play should never require any kind of anaesthetic.

Is anal lube safe to use with condoms?

Water-based and silicone lubricants are both condom-safe. Oil-based lubricants are not as they can degrade latex and cause condoms to fail.

How do I clean anal toys properly?
