Victoria Scone x Ann Summers

RuPaul Drag Race star @victoriascone is bringing the Party this Pride! Read more about her empowering journey…

How has drag allowed you to express yourself?

Drag allows me to express myself in any which way I want to. I’m able to explore different forms of expression through clothing, gender play, performance. I believe that the way we express ourselves is ever evolving and it is so important to give ourselves permission to change in order to live authentically as ourselves.

What advice would you give your younger self if you could go back in time?

I wouldn’t necessarily want to change anything I’ve experienced or gone through. As trying as some things have been, I wouldn’t want to hinder my journey. Every experience good or bad has quite literally got me to where I am today and made me who I am.

What do you do on those days when you're not feeling you're most confident?

Honestly I allow myself some time to self-care and take a moment. I know that I am at a place in my life where I’m happy & comfortable with who I am as a human being, however I am only that, a human being. I cannot be on 100% every moment of every day. I do also sometimes like to be a little self-indulgent & reflect on the great things I’ve accomplished!

How can people be allies to the LGBTQI+ community and what does that look like?

I think firstly a great ally has the understanding that the fight is not over. Pride is still a protest and will continue to be. There are still laws against people within our LGBTQI+ community and we cannot rest until everyone is able to live their authentic lives unapologetically. Also support small queer companies, queer bars, queer safe spaces, drag kings & drag performers of colour!

At Ann Summers we're all about empowering others. What advice would you give our customers on being more comfortable in their own skin?

I think it’s important to understand that it’s all a work in progress. People generally don’t just wake up one day in love with the meat sack they're in. I think it’s also a beautiful thing to be able appreciate different types of bodies and what makes us unique. In my opinion the world would be a very boring place if we all looked exactly the same. Our bodies are gorgeous stunning things but effectively they are vessels that have carry us around and take us through life experiences. They have scars that tell stories and we should be grateful to our bodies for that.
